Senior Director, Context and Semantics Engineering (AI)

Location: Pleasanton, California, USA; hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field

Annual base salary: $281,600–$422,400 USD for the primary location; additional US locations: $231,800–$422,400 USD

What you will do

• Build, scale, and mentor an engineering organization focused on AI context, semantic architecture, and data orchestration.
• Define the technical roadmap for semantic layers, vector databases, knowledge graphs, enterprise ontologies, and semantic search.
• Lead enterprise-grade RAG pipelines that ground language models in accurate, real-time, tenant-isolated HR and Finance data.
• Drive engineering for agentic memory, state management, and conversational context across complex, multi-turn workflows.
• Partner with executive stakeholders across AI/ML Engineering, Product Management, and Platform Architecture.
• Enforce privacy, RBAC, compliance, reliability, and scalability standards for governed enterprise AI.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience in distributed systems, search architectures, data platforms, or AI infrastructure.
• 5+ years of senior engineering leadership experience at Director level or above, including managing managers and organizations of 50+ engineers.
• 3+ years leading teams building AI/ML infrastructure, semantic search engines, LLM orchestration layers, vector databases, or knowledge graphs.
• Strong architectural experience with RAG, embedding generation, chunking strategies, semantic routing, ontologies, and enterprise-scale retrieval systems.
• Experience with regulated Finance or HR data environments, AI guardrails, data privacy, and role-based access control.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience with Elasticsearch, Pinecone, Milvus, Neo4j, GraphRAG, LlamaIndex, or LangChain.
• Experience with the hirify.global platform and architecture.
• Ph.D. in a relevant field.
