Junior Software Engineer (Cloud/AI)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; must be located in the Washington, DC metro area and work onsite at the Reston headquarters four days per week.

Salary: $75,000–$100,000 per year.

What you will do

• Work directly with customers and mission users to understand operational challenges and translate needs into technical solutions.
• Prototype, build, test, deploy, and improve cloud-native capabilities using reusable components, APIs, automation, and modern development frameworks.
• Develop and integrate functionality across front-end, back-end, data, API, and cloud service layers.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, automated tests, observability, security controls, and deployment workflows.
• Use AI-assisted tools and apply generative and agentic AI patterns to improve development, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and operations.
• Participate in customer delivery, code reviews, architecture discussions, technical discovery, pull requests, and release coordination.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of experience in software engineering, application development, cloud engineering, DevSecOps, platform engineering, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience building, deploying, integrating, or supporting modern applications in a cloud environment.
• Working knowledge of AWS or Azure, including compute, networking, identity and access management, storage, monitoring, logging, and security fundamentals.
• Experience with Git, GitHub, CI/CD, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
• Must be located in the Washington, DC metro area, work onsite in Reston four days per week, and hold U.S. citizenship.
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. Existing or eligible Public Trust and/or DHS suitability clearance is required.

Nice to have

• AWS or Azure certification, or active pursuit of one.
• Experience with Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, .NET, containers, APIs, serverless services, infrastructure as code, DevSecOps, or SRE practices.
• A portfolio, GitHub profile, personal project, or demo showing shipped software.
• Experience working directly with customers, product owners, mission users, or cross-functional teams.
• Experience applying generative AI, agentic workflows, AI coding assistants, or automated engineering tools.
