Senior Staff Software Engineer (Trust Engineering)

Location: US - Remote Eligible. Must reside in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.

Salary: $248,000 – $310,000 USD

What you will do

• Define and execute the long-term vision and strategy for the Trust Platform, driving architectural direction for fraud and safety systems.
• Build system and performance tooling to elevate technical quality and operational excellence.
• Champion an AI-first engineering approach, utilizing LLM-powered agents to iterate on code and system design.
• Partner with cross-functional leaders in Product, Data Science, and ML to tackle evolving fraud threats.
• Lead and mentor engineers, raising the technical bar and developing future technical leaders.

Requirements

• 12+ years of backend and platform engineering experience building mission-critical distributed systems at scale.
• Proven experience guiding multi-year technical roadmaps and influencing without formal authority.
• Deep expertise in reliability, observability, SLOs, and resilience patterns.
• Hands-on proficiency with modern languages such as Java, Kotlin, or Scala.
• Must have legal work authorization in the United States and reside in an eligible state.

Nice to have

• Experience building developer experience (DX) and tooling.
• Background in the Trust and Risk domain.
