Senior Database Engineer (PostgreSQL/Oracle)

Location: Chicago, United States

Annual base salary: $150,000–$225,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and relevant skills. Annual discretionary bonus is also available.

What you will do

• Manage and optimize PostgreSQL, Oracle, and related operating system environments.
• Implement and maintain production and non-production databases.
• Perform database performance and query tuning.
• Manage backups, restores, log shipping, mirroring, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery.
• Collaborate with system engineering and development teams on installations, configurations, database design, capacity planning, and usage optimization.
• Respond to production and business-critical issues while supporting current and future database and storage initiatives.

Requirements

• 5+ years of production PostgreSQL database engineering experience.
• 5+ years of production Oracle database engineering experience preferred.
• Strong UNIX/Linux skills and knowledge of database performance tuning and configuration tools.
• Strong technical problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects, handle pressure, learn new technologies, and adapt to changing environments.
• Understanding of SDLC, source control, and change management protocols.

Nice to have

• Experience with clustering, replication, and mirroring.
• SAN knowledge.
