Principal Data Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid role based in Waltham, Massachusetts, at 10 CityPoint

Base salary: USD 160,000–170,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead the design and development of scalable AI/ML data platforms, distributed data processing systems, and cloud-native applications.
• Build end-to-end machine learning pipelines covering data ingestion, feature engineering, training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining.
• Develop batch and streaming pipelines with Kafka, Flink, Spark, Airflow, and similar distributed processing technologies.
• Build microservices, REST APIs, reusable platform services, and enterprise data processing components.
• Design RAG pipelines, embedding services, semantic search capabilities, and vector database integrations.
• Drive platform modernization, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD automation, observability, production troubleshooting, and technical standards.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in Python, Java, Spring Boot, REST API development, and microservices architecture.
• Experience building production-grade AI/ML platforms, ML pipelines, MLOps workflows, and distributed data processing applications.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform or CloudFormation, ECS, and EKS.
• Knowledge of relational, NoSQL, and vector databases including Oracle, PostgreSQL, Redshift, Aurora, MongoDB, Milvus, Pinecone, or Chroma.
• Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, logging, observability, Linux, and software engineering best practices.
• 8+ years of software engineering, data engineering, or AI platform engineering experience, with technical leadership and mentoring experience.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience with Generative AI, RAG, LLM deployment, embedding pipelines, semantic search, Kubeflow, or MLflow.
• Experience designing fault-tolerant, highly available distributed systems and leading enterprise-scale platform initiatives.
