What you will do

• Design, develop, and operate batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and semi-structured data in secure cloud platforms.
• Onboard data sources by defining schemas, mappings, interfaces, validation rules, ownership, and operational procedures.
• Build data-quality checks, monitoring, alerting, transformations, curated datasets, and service interfaces.
• Preserve data lineage, provenance, version history, audit trails, and handling metadata throughout the data lifecycle.
• Implement secure data practices including least-privilege access, encryption, secrets management, privacy protections, and classified-data controls.
• Automate deployments and pipeline operations, optimize distributed systems, troubleshoot failures, and collaborate with engineering, cloud, security, architecture, data science, and customer teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional data engineering experience with production pipeline development and operations.
• Strong SQL skills and proficiency in Python, Java, R, or another data-engineering language.
• Experience with Apache Airflow, AWS Glue, Spark, or comparable data-integration and workflow tools; Jupyter Notebook; and Python data libraries such as NumPy and pandas.
• Experience with a major cloud provider, data-quality frameworks, APIs, JSON, XML, CSV, Parquet, security controls, encryption, auditability, and governance.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience building preprocessing, chunking, filtering, metadata-enrichment, or evaluation pipelines for LLM and AI/ML workflows.
• Experience with segmented networks, limited connectivity, strict change control, formal authorization requirements, or C3.ai.
• Active Public Trust Clearance and AWS, Databricks, or another relevant cloud data-engineering certification.
• Local presence in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
