Data Platform Engineer (Associate)

Location: Chicago, United States; remote-first or hybrid work environment

Salary: $100,000–$130,000 USD annual base salary; estimated total compensation including annual incentive: $112,000–$153,400 USD

What you will do

• Audit analytics applications, technology stacks, data flows, deployment patterns, and integration points.
• Design and implement APIs, event streams, shared data contracts, and other integration patterns.
• Build and maintain shared platform services for authentication, observability, configuration management, and logging.
• Understand distributed ETL/ELT pipelines and create a unified presentation layer across Spark-based systems and relational databases.
• Deploy platform services on cloud infrastructure and contribute to infrastructure-as-code and deployment standards.
• Develop business cases for cloud features by translating technical requirements into business value, risk reduction, and compliance considerations.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of software engineering experience, including at least 1 year in integration, platform, or infrastructure work.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or a similar backend language; experience with two or more languages is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud platforms, including compute, storage, networking, and managed services.
• Experience building and operating ETL/ELT pipelines, including schema management and data quality monitoring.
• Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools.
• Strong written communication skills for architecture decision records, runbooks, and design documents.

Nice to have

• Experience rationalizing heterogeneous technology stacks and integrating inherited systems.
• Familiarity with Airflow, dbt, MLflow, Spark, or comparable analytics and ML platform tools.
• Experience with API gateways, service meshes, or distributed tracing.
• Experience with structured and semi-structured data such as SQL, JSON, Parquet, and Avro at scale.
