Data Operations Engineer (Hybrid) - 30039

Location: Hybrid, with an average of 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, MD office; U.S. Citizenship and an active Secret-level U.S. Government Security Clearance are required.

Salary: $137,510–$195,000 per year.

What you will do

• Act as the lead liaison between customers and technical teams, managing expectations, communicating technical roadmaps, and translating mission-specific data needs into engineering tasks.
• Help manage daily DataOps operations, accelerating data availability and reducing latency from data identification to database availability.
• Oversee deployment, maintenance, monitoring, and performance tuning of data flows, clusters, and pipelines.
• Lead the evolution from reactive maintenance to proactive, automated, adaptive, and self-healing data platform operations.
• Coordinate scripts, flow strategies, and operational improvements across the data ecosystem.
• Implement quality gates and schema validation, and troubleshoot systemic dataflow issues across distributed messaging, orchestration, and cloud environments.

Requirements

• Must currently hold and maintain an active Secret-level U.S. Government Security Clearance and be a U.S. citizen.
• At least 9 years of experience in technical operations, systems engineering, or data management with a Bachelor’s degree; or 7 years of relevant experience with a related Master’s degree; or a high school diploma or equivalent with 13 years of relevant experience.
• Experience managing high-volume data flows and storage using distributed messaging queues, data orchestration engines, and cloud-native storage.
• Strong familiarity with enterprise observability platforms and log analysis tools.
• Deep understanding of network data, metadata fill rates, and JSON and XML log formats.
• Fluency in extraction, translation, and loading (ETL) processes for rapid analytics.
• Experience using SQL for data validation with technical teams and customers.
• Ability to use scripting languages such as Python or Java to build shared libraries and automate repetitive tasks.
• Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and translate customer mission requirements into technical specifications.
• Must obtain Security+ certification within 60 days of hire.
• Must work in a hybrid environment, averaging 1–2 days per week at the Columbia, MD office, with flexibility to adapt to schedule changes.

Nice to have

• Current TS/SCI clearance.
• Experience in technical account management or customer-facing engineering.
• Experience with distributed data processing and cloud-native storage solutions.
• Experience supporting cyber or network security operations.
• Knowledge of automated Attribute Based Access Control (ABAC) or data masking in production pipelines.
