PLC Programmer R&D (m/f/d)

Location: Maia, Portugal, with a remote work option; approximately 20% local or international travel required.

What you will do

• Develop PLC software for intralogistics and material handling systems independently and collaboratively.
• Develop, harmonize, and standardize automation software platforms and engineering methodologies.
• Take technical ownership of software solutions and implement engineering standards and best practices.
• Create technical documentation, training materials, and knowledge-sharing content.
• Collaborate with software development, electrical engineering, project management, service, and product development teams.
• Support project teams and customers in identifying and implementing effective technical solutions.

Requirements

• Degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable qualification, or equivalent technical training.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in PLC programming and commissioning for intralogistics, warehouse automation, storage and retrieval machines, or conveyor systems.
• Strong expertise with Siemens TIA Portal, ideally including integrated safety concepts.
• Experience with industrial drive technology, preferably SEW, and PROFINET, PROFIBUS, CAN, or IO-Link networks.
• Experience developing, maintaining, and governing software standards and engineering methodologies.
• Structured working style, strong communication skills, customer focus, collaboration skills, and willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time.

Nice to have

• Experience in technical leadership, mentoring, or team development.
• Familiarity with project management principles and coordinating technical activities across multiple stakeholders.
