Automation Controls Technician (PLC)

Location: Secaucus, New Jersey, United States; onsite automated manufacturing role

What you will do

• Own PLC, HMI, electrical controls, sensors, I/O, and automation networks supporting production equipment.
• Troubleshoot failures across field devices, I/O, PLC logic, networks, HMIs, and machine sequences to restore production.
• Maintain controlled PLC/HMI programs, configurations, backups, network documentation, and machine recovery files.
• Develop controls spare-parts strategies and preventive maintenance programs based on equipment criticality and downtime exposure.
• Partner with OEMs, system integrators, and engineering teams to resolve complex issues and implement reliability improvements.
• Analyze downtime and failure data, perform root-cause analysis, and support cross-training on automated mechanical systems.

Requirements

• Trade school certification in a technical field and 6+ years of practical experience in an automated manufacturing environment.
• Deep expertise in industrial automation controls, including PLCs, HMIs, I/O systems, sensors, safety circuits, industrial networks, and SMEMA machine sequencing.
• Experience with Festo, CodeSys, Structured Text, HMI configuration, controls integration, industrial Ethernet, sensors, and safety systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, control panel drawings, I/O lists, PLC logic, network architecture, and machine documentation.
• Ability to maintain controlled backups, configuration records, software versions, and machine recovery documentation.
• Strong technical judgment, change-control discipline, independent troubleshooting skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
