TL;DR
Research Intern (AI) (deep learning, model alignment, synthetic data): Architecting and executing foundational research on model reasoning and intelligence, including high-impact datasets, benchmarking, and research-to-production deployment with an accent on post-training, distillation, safety, and reward signals. Focus on selecting autonomous research problems, building large-scale agent systems, and implementing data pipelines and deep learning algorithms for frontier AI.
Location: San Francisco, on-site
Base salary: $14,500/month

What you will do
- Architect and execute foundational research advancing model reasoning and intelligence.
- Own the research-to-production lifecycle and deploy research into live systems.
- Design and iterate on datasets, benchmarking programs, alignment methods, safety approaches, and reward signals with advanced AI research teams.
- Identify, scope, and manage long-running research projects independently.
- Collaborate on data pipelines, internal tooling, and high-performance deep learning implementations.
- Develop large-scale agent systems covering orchestration, tool APIs, distributed execution, observability, and logging.
Requirements
- Research expertise in a related field such as computer science, machine learning, or NLP.
- Experience shipping research to production and live systems.
- Experience with advanced post-training, distillation, high-stakes evaluation, and large-scale benchmarking.
- Ability to master complex fields quickly and contribute to product feature development.
- Experience advising on or shaping governmental policy related to AI safety and governance is required.
- Strategic understanding of the societal and safety impacts of general-purpose AI deployment.
