Head of Payments & Identity (Fintech)

Location: Europe; remote work available

What you will do

• Build and scale the engineering domain across Payments, KYC/Identity, Anti-Fraud, and Core Ledger.
• Lead approximately 30 engineers and engineering leaders, defining organisational structure, team boundaries, leadership models, and ownership areas.
• Define domain strategy, target architecture, and execution roadmaps with Product, Finance, Compliance, Risk, and Operations.
• Improve integrations with payment providers, KYC/AML vendors, and external partners, including resilience, observability, security, fallback scenarios, and incident response.
• Modernise business-critical systems and evolve toward a central, reliable Ledger architecture.
• Define metrics for conversion, reliability, processing speed, fraud losses, reconciliation accuracy, delivery performance, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

• Experience leading a sizeable engineering organisation or multiple cross-functional teams, ideally around 30 or more people.
• Track record of building or significantly scaling an engineering function, domain, or complex platform.
• Strong systems thinking and experience connecting customer journeys, product flows, architecture, operations, risk controls, and financial outcomes.
• Experience leading complex integrations and business-critical systems where correctness, availability, security, and auditability are essential.
• Ability to guide technical leaders, improve delivery predictability and engineering standards, and align senior stakeholders across multiple functions.
• Ukrainian native speaker; fluent English required.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, banking, brokerage, crypto, wallets, marketplaces, or other high-volume transactional products.
• Experience integrating regional payment service providers or financial providers with non-standardised APIs.
• Experience with KYC/identity, AML, transaction monitoring, payment Anti-Fraud, reconciliation, or Ledger systems.
• Experience migrating fragmented or legacy accounting components to a central Ledger or financial source of truth.
• Experience building internal tools and workflows for Finance, Compliance, Risk, or back-office teams.
