Head of Engineering (Fintech)

Location: Must be based in Buenos Aires, Bogotá, or Miami; hybrid work required

What you will do

• Run day-to-day engineering delivery, reliability, incident response, observability, and payment-routing performance.
• Own the quarterly technical roadmap, release cadence, engineering commitments, testing, documentation, and on-call practices.
• Lead a small in-house team and external engineering partners while maintaining a high technical bar through code reviews and hands-on development.
• Improve payment infrastructure so new acquirers and payment methods can be added through configuration instead of lengthy integration projects.
• Make capacity and sourcing decisions across in-house engineering and external partners, including the associated costs.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading engineers directly.
• Professional background in payments, acquiring, processing, ledgers, reconciliation, or high-volume fintech transactions.
• Recent hands-on coding and code review experience, including direct involvement in production incidents.
• Experience with external engineering partners or agencies.
• Production experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, queues, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code.
• Fluent English and Spanish; must be based in Buenos Aires, Bogotá, or Miami for hybrid work.

Nice to have

• Experience as a first or second engineering leader who built a platform that operated independently.
• PCI DSS or equivalent audit experience.
• Direct integrations with local acquirers in Latin America.
• Working-level Portuguese for Brazil.
• Prior startup or YC-company experience at a similar stage.
