Tech Lead (AI)

Location: Remote in Europe with required UK timezone overlap

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a globally distributed engineering team through technical guidance, 1:1s, feedback, and career support.
• Drive software and architecture design through coding, pair programming, peer reviews, and technical decision-making.
• Set engineering standards across architecture, CI/CD, testing, code quality, reliability, and delivery workflows.
• Architect and deliver scalable, maintainable systems and user-facing features with measurable impact on learners.
• Collaborate with AI specialists to integrate adaptive and personalized learning capabilities.
• Partner with product, design, and data to shape roadmaps, prioritize scope, and align on outcomes.

Requirements

• 8+ years of commercial experience as a software engineer, including senior engineering experience in product-led, fast-paced environments.
• Strong software architecture skills, including API-first and modular design, asynchronous communication, and scaling patterns.
• Deep backend expertise with the ability to navigate modern frontend frameworks; React is preferred.
• Daily experience using LLMs and agentic tools as part of an AI-first engineering workflow.
• Experience with Docker-based, cloud-native environments, preferably AWS, and a DevOps ownership mindset.
• Availability for required UK timezone overlap and excellent communication across disciplines and time zones.

Hiring process

• CV screening followed by a 60-minute introductory call with the hiring manager.
• Take-home coding exercise covering architecture, clean code, testing, and problem-solving.
• Technical interview and final culture and collaboration interview with the Product Manager.
