Platform Operations Director (SaaS)

Salary: £150,000–£160,000 per year

What you will do

• Own the 99.9% availability SLA across the application suite and govern SLOs, error budgets, observability, capacity planning, resilience testing, and reliability improvement.
• Lead vulnerability management across application code, dependencies, containers, and infrastructure, including remediation SLAs, reporting, and security enablement.
• Lead the transition to distributed production ownership, including on-call, alerting, and operational health for product engineering teams.
• Oversee the internal developer platform, golden paths, self-service tooling, CI/CD, and environment provisioning.
• Run the platform as a product with internal customers, service levels, adoption metrics, feedback loops, and a prioritised roadmap.
• Use engineering productivity metrics such as deployment frequency, lead time for change, change failure rate, and time to restore to guide investment.

Requirements

• Senior leadership experience in SRE, platform, or infrastructure functions at scale within a customer-facing SaaS environment.
• Strong knowledge of SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, observability, capacity planning, incident management, on-call design, and blameless post-incident reviews.
• Experience owning security posture, vulnerability management, remediation SLAs, and executive or board-level reporting.
• Experience leading build-it-run-it transformations, internal developer platforms, platform-as-a-product models, and engineering productivity measurement.
• Technical credibility with AWS and Terraform, plus strong executive communication and influencing skills.
• Experience with enterprise SaaS, regulated or data-sensitive domains, AI-assisted operational tooling, and multi-product platforms is valuable.

Nice to have

• Experience in EdTech or another regulated, data-sensitive sector.
• Familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2, Cyber Essentials Plus, UK GDPR, PHP-based estates, Docker, Kanban, agile delivery, and FinOps.
• Hands-on experience evaluating AIOps or AI-assisted incident tooling.
