Founding IT Engineer

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; in person in San Francisco 4 days a week. The role supports offices in San Francisco and New York as well as a growing remote workforce.

What you will do

• Build and own the IT function, including systems, automation, processes, and internal documentation.
• Manage endpoint provisioning, MDM configuration, patching, inventory, and device security.
• Own corporate identity and access management, including SSO, MFA, role-based permissions, and employee lifecycle automation.
• Manage SaaS vendors, licenses, renewals, and costs across tools such as Google Workspace, Slack, Linear, and Microsoft 365.
• Maintain physical IT infrastructure in the San Francisco and New York offices, including UniFi networking, access control, and cameras.
• Provide end-user support, respond to urgent issues, build automation with Python, n8n, Zapier, and AI-assisted tools, and define secure guardrails for AI usage.

Requirements

• Experience as the first or second IT hire, building an IT function from zero at a fast-moving company.
• Security-first experience in a high-security environment such as fintech or enterprise SaaS.
• Strong scripting and automation skills in Python or a similar language.
• Practical daily experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex while maintaining security controls.
• Strong prioritization and project management skills, with a hands-on approach to building, supporting, and responding to IT needs.
• Ability to work in person in San Francisco four days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with SOC 2 or ISO 27001 compliance frameworks and audit support.
• Security expertise, particularly in vulnerability management.
• Experience administering Windows environments at scale.
