Mechatronics Engineer (AI)

Location: Onsite in Pueblo, Colorado, United States. Travel up to 10% within the continental United States.

Salary: $90,000–$115,000 USD annually, excluding benefits and bonuses.

What you will do

• Design, build, integrate, commission, and sustain mechatronic systems for solid rocket motor and energetic materials production.
• Develop robotic handling systems, custom end-effectors, motion-control systems, sensor integrations, and electromechanical assemblies.
• Maintain and troubleshoot automated production systems to improve uptime, reliability, throughput, and process performance.
• Integrate robots, actuators, sensors, PLCs, software control layers, and data pipelines; execute functional, FAT, and SAT validation testing.
• Create schematics, test records, validation reports, engineering change logs, and other compliance documentation.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Safety, and Compliance teams to implement process improvements and resolve failures through structured root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline with 3 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a relevant master’s degree with 1 year of experience or 7 years of hands-on experience in lieu of a degree.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and commissioning mechatronic systems involving robotics, motion control, sensors, and electromechanical integration.
• Experience integrating PLCs, sensors, actuators, and software control layers, with the ability to read, modify, and write control or scripting code in Python, C#, C++, or equivalent.
• Experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace, defense, or chemical manufacturing, including work within OSHA and ITAR requirements.
• Strong engineering documentation, communication, independent problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Must be eligible to meet U.S. ITAR and export-control requirements as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or person eligible to obtain required authorizations. Must also satisfy applicable explosives-license, background-investigation, age, and drug-free workplace requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience with energetic materials, explosives, or hazardous manufacturing environments such as C1D1/C2D1.
• Familiarity with machine learning or AI-assisted manufacturing applications, including vision inspection, predictive maintenance, or adaptive process control.
