Associate Counsel, PIP (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote, with the position associated with Westbury, New York and requiring travel to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences as needed.

Annual salary: $118,900–$186,550

What you will do

• Defend PIP arbitrations and lawsuits filed in New York and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions on coverage, medical necessity, causation, damages, and claim value for the Claims Department.
• Prepare arbitration submissions and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters at trial and dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the New York Bar and an active license in good standing required.
• New York licensing and applicable continuing legal education requirements must be maintained.
• 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience required.
• Strong written communication, organization, prioritization, multitasking, conflict-resolution, and legal analysis skills.
• Ability to learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense or personal injury litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in writing.
