IT System Administrator (Linux)

What you will do

• Administer, patch, secure, and troubleshoot Linux servers and workstations supporting engineering, R&D, and office environments.
• Operate and troubleshoot Toronto office and laboratory networks, including switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, VPNs, cabling, and network segmentation.
• Provide onsite end-user support for hardware, software, access, and connectivity issues, while supporting remote users across other locations.
• Manage endpoint enrollment, configuration, security policies, application deployment, compliance, device lifecycle, mobile devices, and asset records across Linux, Windows, and macOS.
• Support identity and access management, onboarding and offboarding, permissions, SSO integrations, and SaaS access.
• Improve IT workflows and documentation, manage incidents through Jira Service Management, and participate in the after-hours support on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in IT systems administration, desktop support, or IT operations.
• Strong hands-on Linux administration experience with Ubuntu/Debian or RHEL/CentOS, including command-line use, permissions, and troubleshooting.
• Solid networking fundamentals covering TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, routing, firewalls, VPNs, and troubleshooting of switches, routers, and cabling.
• Experience supporting Windows and macOS in a business environment and administering endpoint management platforms such as Intune, JumpCloud, or Jamf.
• Knowledge of identity and access management, user provisioning, authentication, permissions, and secure access practices.
• Ability to prioritize requests, document technical processes clearly, work independently with a distributed IT team, participate in on-call support, and lift or move approximately 50 pounds.

Nice to have

• Production or engineering/R&D Linux server administration experience and networking certification such as CCNA.
• Automation and scripting experience with Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar tools.
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, Okta, SAML, SCIM, or security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
• Experience supporting robotics, specialized computing or laboratory environments, multi-site organizations, office buildouts, or physical infrastructure projects.
• Startup experience and interest in self-driving technologies.
