Senior Software Engineer, Backend Development (Ad Cloud Serving Services) (AdTech): Building scalable, high-performance backend services for real-time ad recommendation, data serving, and core advertising infrastructure with an accent on distributed systems, low-latency processing, and operational reliability. Focus on optimizing database and network performance, designing observability and incident-management capabilities, and supporting high-concurrency serving services under extreme loads.
Location: Tokyo, Japan. The position is based in Tokyo; visa sponsorship is available for international candidates relocating to Japan.

What you will do
- Design and develop scalable, reliable backend services for real-time ad recommendation, data serving, and core advertising infrastructure.
- Own technical roadmaps and deliver sizable projects within the Ad Cloud ecosystem.
- Optimize latency, throughput, resource utilization, database interactions, and network architecture.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, observability, incident management, and production operating procedures.
- Collaborate with product managers and scientists to translate business requirements into technical designs.
- Review code, mentor junior engineers, participate in on-call rotation, and drive continuous technical improvement.
Requirements
- 3–5+ years of backend software development experience with high-performance, high-concurrency systems.
- Professional experience with Go or Python and system design for scalable distributed systems in Linux environments.
- Knowledge of RESTful APIs or gRPC, message queues such as Kafka or Pub/Sub, and data pipelines.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, including database optimization and scaling strategies.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and observability tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, code review, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience refactoring complex systems and improving latency, error rates, CPU usage, and resource utilization.
- Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and customizable model configurations.
- Experience deploying and serving machine learning models in production.
- Exposure to AdTech or recommendation systems.
