Senior Software Engineer - Developer Experience (Golang, Python)

Location: Melbourne, Australia. Canva also has campuses in Sydney and Melbourne, plus coworking spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. Flexible choices are available for where and how to work, and interviews are conducted virtually.

What you will do

• Own critical Developer Experience infrastructure used by engineers across Canva.
• Build and maintain CI/CD systems, test infrastructure, release automation, and deployment safety mechanisms.
• Improve developer environments, build performance, IDE integrations, and AI-assisted development tooling.
• Maintain source control systems, monorepo tooling, Bazel-based build systems, code review infrastructure, and self-service platforms.
• Reduce systemic engineering friction and help teams deliver software faster and more reliably.

Requirements

• Strong Platform Engineering background with solid programming experience in Python and Go.
• Proven experience building and operating systems at scale and supporting organizations with 1,000+ engineers.
• Strong AWS or GCP experience, with AWS used at Canva.
• Thorough production experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and orchestration.
• Experience building complex CI/CD pipelines and using Bazel, Gradle, or similar monorepo build tools.
• Experience with observability and Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java or TypeScript.
• Experience with release automation, deployment safety, developer tooling, or large-scale test infrastructure.
• Open-source contributions to infrastructure or developer tools.
• Experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities into developer workflows.
