Director of Data (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid, with work from the Palo Alto office Monday through Wednesday; the posting also lists Toronto, Ontario.

Salary: CA$191,452–CA$252,000 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own the vision and execution of modern data infrastructure and highly scalable, reliable data pipelines.
• Lead data security, privacy, and governance for global payroll, HR, and compliance data.
• Turn complex datasets into actionable strategies for Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal.
• Lead the company’s AI Everywhere initiative, including LLMs, machine learning models, and AI capabilities for products such as the compliance assistant Alfie.
• Present data-driven insights to executives and the board through clear technical and business storytelling.
• Recruit and develop data engineers, analysts, and AI specialists while fostering continuous learning and psychological safety.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or analytics, including at least 5 years in senior leadership.
• Hands-on expertise with Snowflake, Fivetran, Atlan, Looker, and Monte Carlo.
• Experience deploying LLMs, machine learning models, and AI tools in production products and internal workflows.
• Strong ability to connect data initiatives with growth, efficiency, billing accuracy, payroll speed, and compliance outcomes.
• Exceptional communication and data storytelling skills for non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work from the Palo Alto office Monday through Wednesday.
