AI Engineer (Digital Products & AI)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, USA; hybrid work with at least 2 days per week in the office or on a client site, and up to 5 days per week on a client site depending on the assignment

What you will do

• Design and build production AI applications, digital products, AI agents, intelligent workflows, and modernized enterprise platforms.
• Architect AI solution components including tool selection, memory and context management, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Build and deploy retrieval pipelines, MCP services, integrations, and systems connecting AI capabilities with enterprise data and processes.
• Design security and operational resilience through access controls, identity management, deployment guardrails, and oversight of automated actions.
• Work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams from discovery through deployment, shaping scope, sequencing, and implementation approaches.
• Create reusable patterns, skills, and tooling for future engagements.

Requirements

• Experience designing, building, and operating complex production software; client-facing technical delivery experience is expected at senior levels.
• Strong software engineering skills, ideally including Python and TypeScript.
• Experience designing and delivering cloud-native systems on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Hands-on experience building production AI applications and agent-based systems, including orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or similar.
• Experience building retrieval-enabled systems with technologies such as pgvector, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
• Experience integrating applications with enterprise systems, data platforms, APIs, identity providers, and MCP-enabled services, with strong communication and technical judgment.

• Experience in consulting, professional services, or as a technical founder.
• Experience in healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing, energy and utilities, transportation, or consumer industries.
• Experience building reusable platforms, tooling, or AI solutions in regulated environments.
