Applied AI Engineer

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California, United States; on-site at least 2 days per week, with 2–4 days preferred. Travel: 10–20%.

Salary: $150,000–$170,000 annual base compensation, excluding bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and deploy applied AI systems, including model integrations, inference services, evaluation pipelines, and production-facing capabilities.
• Research, collect data, test hypotheses, and develop robust, maintainable, and deployable models with product and mission teams.
• Evaluate and improve model performance in adversarial, GPS-denied, noisy, degraded-connectivity, and low-power edge environments.
• Develop production-quality software for data acquisition, processing, model serving, monitoring, lifecycle management, and system integration.
• Create prototypes and iterate them toward production-ready implementations with engineers, data scientists, product teams, and mission stakeholders.
• Improve AI system reliability through testing, benchmarking, observability, interpretability, failure analysis, and performance optimization.

Requirements

• US Citizen or Permanent Resident required.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 2–5 years of professional software development experience; exceptional recent graduates may apply.
• Very strong Python skills and experience building, testing, deploying, and supporting production software and models.
• Experience with AI/ML model integration, model serving infrastructure, model lifecycle management, evaluation, benchmarking, robustness testing, interpretability, or ML observability.
• Familiarity with APIs, distributed systems, containers, CI/CD, observability, edge deployment, and GPU optimization.

Nice to have

• Experience with explainable AI, real-time digital video processing, LLM applications, computer vision, signal processing, autonomous systems, or AI agents.
• Experience with RF signal processing, drones, sensor fusion, tracking, moving-target detection, or low-latency edge inference.
• Background in aerospace, defense, critical infrastructure, robotics, or other mission-critical environments.
