TL;DR
JR and SR AI Developer (Python/Azure/Databricks): Building AI-powered application features and services that integrate LLMs and ML models into insurance products with an accent on RAG, model serving, evaluation, and secure handling of sensitive customer data. Focus on developing APIs, monitoring output quality and latency, deploying models through MLflow and Databricks Model Serving, and applying responsible-AI governance in a regulated environment.
Location: Remote within the United States; listed locations are Birmingham, Alabama and Nebraska

What you will do
- Build and integrate AI-powered features and services using LLMs and ML models on Azure Databricks and Microsoft Azure.
- Develop RAG, embeddings, vector search, prompt and system design, tool calling, and agentic workflows.
- Build and consume APIs with attention to latency, reliability, cost, and user-facing product integration.
- Deploy and version models and prompts with MLflow and Databricks Model Serving.
- Implement evaluation harnesses, guardrails, human-in-the-loop review, and monitoring for quality, latency, drift, cost, and feedback.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, data engineers, and the AI/ML Engineering Lead while applying privacy and responsible-AI practices.
Requirements
- Junior: 3–5 years of software development experience; Senior: 5–8 years, including hands-on AI or GenAI application development.
- Python, APIs, services, testing, SQL, Git-based development, and CI/CD experience with Azure DevOps.
- Experience with LLM applications, including RAG, embeddings, vector search or databases, prompt design, model APIs, and evaluation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Azure OpenAI, Databricks, MLflow, Delta Lake, dlt, dbt, and Dagster.
- Role is remote within the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Insurance or financial-services experience.
- Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, Databricks Vector Search, or Azure AI Search.
- Front-end or full-stack experience delivering AI features.
- Responsible-AI, model-risk, governance, bias, fairness, or explainability experience.
- Azure AI Engineer Associate or Databricks GenAI/ML certification.
