Junior Data Engineer

Location: Remote, Arlington, VA; occasional ad hoc travel to client locations may be required

Salary: $70,000–$85,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop and maintain intake forms, role-based dashboards, workflow routing, notifications, and audit logging.
• Design relational and list-based data structures supporting routing, threshold logic, versioning, and historical reporting.
• Build data pipelines that ingest, validate, transform, and load data from spreadsheets, forms, and enterprise systems.
• Write and optimize SQL queries, stored logic, REST API integrations, and JSON-based data exchanges.
• Create reporting views, dashboards, automated summaries, and executive outputs covering request status, SLA compliance, and performance metrics.
• Collaborate in Agile delivery through requirements analysis, testing, code reviews, documentation, defect resolution, and release activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in software development, data engineering, or a related technical role; relevant internship, academic, research, or personal project experience may be considered.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL, including relational database design and data modeling.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, Git-based version control, written requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Ability to document technical concepts, learn low-code platforms quickly, and work independently or with cross-functional teams in a remote or hybrid setting.
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, and SharePoint Online.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, TypeScript or JavaScript, React, Power BI, Grafana, Docker, or GitHub Actions.
• Federal health IT experience, Agile or Scrum delivery experience, and familiarity with regulated data quality, audit logging, and Section 508 accessibility.
