6-Month PhD Student Placement - Physics Consultant (AI)

Location: Melbourn, Royston, UK; on-site five days a week

What you will do

• Support multidisciplinary project teams in inventing new products and technologies.
• Contribute to technology and product development from invention and analysis through prototype design and transfer to manufacture.
• Work on projects across applications such as drug delivery devices, AI-enabled drug discovery, and 5G NTN handset antennas.
• Build commercial understanding of relevant markets and engage directly with clients.
• Present findings, clarify client requirements, and help deliver practical technical solutions.
• Develop consulting, leadership, team-building, and client relationship skills.

Requirements

• Currently undertaking a PhD in Physics.
• Minimum 2:1 degree in Physics and an academic record demonstrating rigorous, first-principles thinking.
• Intellectual curiosity, inventiveness, and interest in understanding how things work at a fundamental level.
• Commercial awareness, an entrepreneurial mindset, and interest in turning technologies into real-world products.
• Proactive, self-starting, collaborative, and emotionally intelligent approach with strong communication skills.
• Ability to work on-site five days a week in Melbourn, Royston, UK.
