Associate or Senior Editor (Communications Sustainability)

Location: Hybrid position based in the Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Pune, New Delhi, or Madrid office

What you will do

• Select and develop manuscripts for publication in Communications Sustainability according to editorial policies.
• Assess scientific quality, novelty, context, and implications across environmental sciences and sustainability research.
• Improve manuscript accessibility by editing titles and introductory sections and recommending structural changes.
• Coordinate the transfer of accepted manuscripts to production and support publishing workflows.
• Recommend manuscripts for press releases, draft press release content, and create editorial content for special projects.
• Recruit, train, and support external editors; attend conferences and research institution meetings and advise marketing and advertising teams.

Requirements

• PhD-level research experience in environmental sciences applied to sustainability.
• Strength in analytical or computational methods such as remote sensing, spatial analysis, systems modelling, or integrated assessment modelling.
• Ability to assess research from different disciplines and understand its novelty, context, and implications.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Strong scientific writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, with broad interest in scientific research.
• Ability to work from one of the listed Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, Pune, New Delhi, or Madrid offices under a hybrid model.

Nice to have

• Editorial experience, postdoctoral experience, or broad scientific training.
• Research experience in environmental change, environmental monitoring and assessment, pollution, resource use, climate adaptation, or environmental impacts.
