Editor-in-Chief, Cell Biotech

Location: Medford, Massachusetts, with flexibility in location and strong preference for proximity to offices in Boston, London, Oxford, Amsterdam, Munich, Beijing, Shanghai, or Shenzhen. The role includes extensive travel to conferences and research institutes.

Salary: U.S. base pay of $95,300–$158,800 annually; New York City range of $114,300–$190,500. Germany-based ranges are €75,200–€125,500, and Amsterdam-based compensation is €100,400–€167,300. An annual incentive bonus may apply.

What you will do

• Define the aims, scope, formats, and editorial direction of a new biotechnology journal.
• Build a broad, impactful, topical, and cohesive publication with strong appeal to international researchers.
• Use an established network of leading researchers to attract high-quality article submissions.
• Recruit and manage in-house editorial team members and coordinate rigorous manuscript evaluation.
• Develop partnerships with Cell Press editorial, Operations, Marketing, and Press teams.
• Represent the journal through conferences, research institute visits, and other community engagement.

Requirements

• Proven biotechnology research expertise and broad interest across the journal's scope.
• Deep network of international researchers and the ability to engage and influence them.
• Conceptual and critical thinking across a wide range of scientific issues.
• Proven organizational, project management, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Extensive editorial experience is valued; current academic researchers seeking editorial or publishing challenges are encouraged to apply.
