Commissioning Editor (Science & Technology and Medicine)

Location: Beijing or Shanghai, China; candidates must live within commuting distance of the Beijing or Shanghai office and work in person three days per week or more, with flexibility to work from home or remotely at other times. Candidates must have the right to work in China. Relocation support is not provided.

What you will do

• Commission high-quality articles across Science & Technology and Medicine journal portfolios.
• Create and review commissioning plans aligned with journal strategies, targets, and content needs.
• Analyze academic fields, research developments, and market dynamics to identify growth opportunities.
• Build relationships with Editors-in-Chief, editorial boards, research communities, publishers, commissioning teams, and marketing teams.
• Represent assigned subject areas through networking, social media engagement, conferences, and meetings across China.
• Improve commissioning processes, content quality, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Degree in a relevant field with an understanding of academic research and publishing.
• Experience commissioning content, generating leads and ideas, and identifying key opinion leaders.
• Fluency in Mandarin and English, written and spoken.
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust in Chinese academic circles.
• Cultural fluency and the ability to work across Chinese and international contexts.
• Existing right to work in China and availability to work from Beijing or Shanghai. Frequent travel within China is required.
