Software Engineer, Platform Engineering (L2)

Location: Remote within the United States; hiring is not available in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, or Washington. Occasional travel may be required for project or team meetings.

Salary: $116,960–$146,200 annually for candidates based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, or Washington, D.C.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate services and automations supporting Kubernetes clusters at scale.
• Write production backend code and convert well-scoped engineering tasks into working implementations.
• Support AWS and Azure cloud configurations with Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code.
• Maintain observability across core data pipelines, including metrics, alerts, and basic distributed tracing.
• Participate in code reviews, unit and integration testing, sprint planning, and technical debt reduction.
• Work with senior engineers, product management, and technical leadership while developing toward greater ownership.

Requirements

• 1–2 or more years of professional software engineering experience, including exposure to backend services using Kubernetes.
• Basic knowledge of Kubernetes deployments, pods, and services, plus familiarity with Terraform or similar IaC tools.
• Working knowledge of at least one of Shell, Terraform, YAML, or Go, with willingness to learn the others.
• Exposure to AWS or Azure cloud services and foundational networking concepts.
• Understanding of distributed datastores, caching layers, or asynchronous event streaming such as Kafka.
• Solid computer science fundamentals and willingness to use AI-assisted development tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker, GitOps, ArgoCD, CI/CD platforms, or multi-cloud environments.
• Interest in canary and blue/green deployments, policy-as-code with OPA/Gatekeeper, or OpenTelemetry.
• Exposure to network topology, proxy layers, mail transfer agent protocols, or distributed data projects.
