Software Engineer (Ground Software)

Location: On-site at the headquarters in Torrance, California, United States

Salary: $123,000–$150,000 per year plus equity

K2 Space is a Series C space startup developing and mass-producing high-power satellite platforms for missions from low Earth orbit to deep space.

What you will do

• Design and implement software for building, testing, and operating satellites and customer payloads.
• Develop new capabilities and automation for the mission software platform used to operate satellite constellations.
• Collaborate with Mission Operations and Flight Software teams on mission architecture and technical solutions.
• Facilitate software design reviews, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
• Work across a Rust backend and TypeScript/Vue frontend to support development, testing, and operations.
• Support internal and external customers on call and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or another STEM discipline, or 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with software engineering and developing reliable, scalable systems.
• Ability to work in person at the Torrance, California headquarters.
• Must be a U.S. person under ITAR regulations or otherwise eligible for a federally issued export control license.

Nice to have

• Experience with space missions or satellite ground segments.
• Experience with Rust or another statically typed backend language, and with JavaScript or TypeScript frontend development.
• Experience with APIs, SQL databases, event-driven architectures, Docker, Kubernetes, WebSockets, or server-sent events.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity standards, networking protocols, and data streaming technologies.
