Frontend Developer / 508 Compliance Specialist

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain front-end components that meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards.
• Perform accessibility testing with JAWS and other screen readers, then remediate issues involving keyboard navigation, focus management, ARIA, color contrast, and semantic HTML.
• Conduct manual and automated audits, document findings, and prepare accessibility test reports.
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers, developers, QA, DevOps, and product owners to build accessibility into the design and delivery process.
• Integrate tools such as axe-core, Pa11y, and Lighthouse into CI/CD pipelines for continuous compliance monitoring.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and communicate accessibility requirements and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Front-end development experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, preferably Vue.
• Hands-on experience testing with JAWS and familiarity with other assistive technologies.
• Strong knowledge of Section 508, WCAG 2.1/2.2 Levels A/AA, and ARIA authoring practices.
• Experience with semantic HTML, accessible forms, keyboard navigation, focus management, and accessibility auditing tools including axe DevTools, WAVE, Pa11y, or Lighthouse.
• Experience with Git and Agile collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Nice to have

• Experience producing VPATs or Accessibility Conformance Reports for federal agency review.
• Experience integrating automated accessibility checks into CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab CI/CD.
• Experience with Cypress or similar tools for automated UI and accessibility testing.
• Familiarity with AWS, cloud-based architecture, and government agency reporting and dissemination policies.
