TL;DR
System Engineer (Frontend Accessibility): Building and validating accessible front-end interfaces for the RAD system with an accent on Section 508, WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA, screen reader compatibility, and accessible interaction patterns. Location: On-site in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, United States

Salary: $168,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and maintain front-end components and user interfaces for the RAD system.
  • Ensure interfaces conform to Section 508 and WCAG 2.1/2.2 A/AA accessibility standards.
  • Perform manual and automated accessibility testing with JAWS and other assistive technologies.
  • Remediate issues involving keyboard navigation, focus management, ARIA, semantic HTML, and color contrast.
  • Document audit findings, produce compliance reports, and collaborate with designers, developers, product owners, QA, and DevOps.
  • Integrate tools such as axe-core, Pa11y, and Lighthouse into CI/CD pipelines and participate in Agile ceremonies.

Requirements

  • TS/SCI Clearance with polygraph required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or qualifying additional software engineering experience; at least three years of software development or engineering experience.
  • At least three years of experience with high-level programming languages such as Java, C, C++, or JavaScript and with Windows or UNIX/Linux systems.
  • Front-end development experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, preferably Vue, plus hands-on JAWS testing and familiarity with assistive technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Section 508, WCAG 2.1/2.2 A/AA, ARIA authoring practices, semantic HTML, accessible forms, keyboard navigation, and focus management.
  • Experience with accessibility auditing tools, Git, Jira, Confluence, software integration, testing, technical documentation, and object-oriented systems.

Nice to have

  • Experience producing VPATs or Accessibility Conformance Reports for federal agencies.
  • Experience with automated accessibility testing in CI/CD, Cypress, GitLab CI/CD, or AWS.
  • Familiarity with government reporting and dissemination policies.
  • Experience with the listed technologies, including React, Angular, Java, Python, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL, AWS, and web services.
