Senior Frontend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote; GitLab hires in countries around the world, with possible location-based eligibility requirements.

What you will do

• Build secure, tested, performant repository-management features using Vue.js and GraphQL.
• Develop clear and accessible interfaces for complex policies, permissions, branch protection, Codeowners, and merge strategies.
• Collaborate with product management, design, user experience research, testing, security, technical writing, Gitaly, Code Review, and Source Code Experience.
• Use and critically review AI coding agents for appropriately scoped work while maintaining code quality.
• Improve reliability through performance tuning, caching, rate limiting, observability, resiliency, incident troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
• Contribute through code review, technical documentation, asynchronous collaboration, mentoring, and frontend technical leadership.

Requirements

• Professional experience with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript framework and GraphQL integration.
• Strong knowledge of semantic HTML, CSS, core JavaScript, responsive design, accessibility, and frontend performance.
• Experience simplifying complex policy, permissions, or rules-based problems in web applications.
• Experience writing frontend unit and acceptance tests with tools such as Jest, Karma, Jasmine, Mocha, ava, or tape.
• Professional Git experience, collaborative code review experience, and the ability to work independently through ambiguity.
• Clear written and spoken English communication skills are required for remote, asynchronous collaboration.

• Experience raising the standard for AI coding-agent use in a large, complex monorepo.
• Experience coaching or mentoring frontend engineers and providing technical leadership.
