Senior Backend Engineer (Kafka): Building and scaling the Enernet cloud platform for connected battery energy storage systems, with an accent on high-throughput telemetry pipelines, low-latency APIs, and TimescaleDB performance. Focus on stabilising Kafka-based streaming, reducing infrastructure cost and latency, and executing safe live migrations without downtime.

What you will do
- Own and improve the telemetry pipeline from AWS IoT Core and Kafka to TimescaleDB, including legacy GCP Pub/Sub integrations.
- Scale the Enernet cloud platform as the connected device fleet grows, maintaining throughput, correctness, latency, and cost targets.
- Design and evolve secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs and maintain the BFF layer for web and mobile clients.
- Improve Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, batching, backpressure, hot-path isolation, and time-series data processing.
- Use Grafana and observability tooling to identify slow queries, monitor production health, and prevent incidents.
- Collaborate with frontend, mobile, firmware, service, and commercial teams to turn telemetry into reliable tooling.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of experience building and operating production backend systems, including high-throughput streaming or time-series data.
- Strong practical knowledge of Kafka partitioning, consumer groups, rebalancing, ordering, idempotency, schema evolution, SQL, and time-series databases.
- Fluency in TypeScript and Node.js, preferably with NestJS, plus production AWS experience including ECS, IoT Core, networking, and Terraform/IaC.
- Experience designing secure, low-latency GraphQL and REST APIs for web and mobile clients.
- Experience migrating live systems without downtime using parallel writes, shadow validation, staged cutovers, and rollback.
- Ability to document technical decisions, lead incident response, set technical direction, and communicate clearly across engineering and business functions.
Nice to have
- Prior experience with Go; services are moving to Go for latency-sensitive paths.
- Experience with ClickHouse or InfluxDB.
