What you will do
- Advise undergraduate students on academic goals, majors, minors, degree requirements, course selection, registration, withdrawals, and curriculum changes.
- Review academic records, monitor student progress, assess degree completion status, and provide input on probationary decisions and exception requests.
- Build relationships with students through in-person and online outreach, helping them access academic, career, health, wellness, and disability resources.
- Plan and deliver advising, student success, retention events, academic campaigns, and outreach for prospective and current students.
- Maintain advising records and notes, collaborate with campus partners, and assist with training new staff and student workers.
- Complete required onboarding, professional development, and academic advising training.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of advising or related experience.
- Knowledge of academic advising theories, models, professional standards, ethics, curricula, degree programs, and student success resources.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and confidentially, guide and mentor students, facilitate goal-setting and problem-solving, and build collaborative relationships.
- Ability to identify high-risk indicators, review academic data, use advising technologies, and support student learning and retention outcomes.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- No license or certification is required.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of Texas A&M University’s history, mission, policies, procedures, culture, and academic advising practices.
- Experience developing and delivering training or professional development in academic advising.
- Knowledge of privacy regulations, confidentiality, mental health resources, and the needs of diverse student populations.
