TL;DR
Academic Advisor II (Student Success and Retention): Advising undergraduate students on academic goals, degree requirements, course selection, registration processes, and career options with an accent on retention, student engagement, and confidential support. Focus on monitoring academic progress, identifying high-risk indicators, developing advising and retention campaigns, and training staff and student employees.

Location: College Station, Texas; full-time position

Salary: $3,750.00 monthly minimum; final salary is commensurate.

Texas A&M University Health Science Center is an academic health center with colleges, research centers, institutes, and team-based health care programs.

What you will do

  • Advise undergraduate students on academic goals, majors, minors, degree requirements, course selection, registration, withdrawals, and related university processes.
  • Review academic records, monitor degree progress, identify high-risk indicators, and provide guidance on probationary decisions and exception requests.
  • Build relationships with students through in-person and online outreach and connect them with academic, career, health, wellness, and accessibility resources.
  • Plan and deliver advising, student success, retention events, and academic campaigns.
  • Maintain advising records and notes, assist with staff and student employee training, and contribute to department support activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least two years of advising or related experience.
  • Knowledge of academic advising theories, models, ethical standards, curriculum requirements, student success outcomes, and campus resources.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and confidentially, coach and mentor students, facilitate goal setting, and support academic decision-making.
  • Ability to use academic advising technologies, review data, conduct research, and develop or deliver training.
  • Ability to work in College Station, Texas, with possible work beyond normal office hours or on weekends.

  • Knowledge of Texas A&M University policies, procedures, and academic advising practices.
  • Experience addressing student mental health resources and needs.
  • Experience planning professional development or training activities.
