TL;DR
Autonomy & Active Safety Engineering Intern (Robotics): Developing, integrating, and demonstrating autonomy, robotics, perception, and vehicle-control technologies on real specialty-vehicle platforms with an accent on computer vision, sensor fusion, embedded systems, and active safety. Focus on integrating cameras, LiDAR, radar, GPS/IMU, and edge-computing hardware, testing vehicle systems, and solving real-world autonomy challenges across software, controls, and hardware.

Location: Onsite in hirify.global, Wisconsin or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States

Salary: $18.00–$37.00 per hour

What you will do

  • Own a technical project involving autonomy, active safety, robotics, perception, embedded controls, or vehicle systems.
  • Develop, integrate, test, and demonstrate capabilities on real vehicles, test benches, or simulation environments.
  • Build and evaluate computer vision and machine learning features such as object detection, tracking, and vision-language models.
  • Integrate cameras, LiDAR, radar, GPS/IMU, and high-performance edge-computing platforms.
  • Develop and test software and embedded vehicle-control systems using Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and related tools.
  • Collaborate across software, systems, controls, electrical, mechanical, and hardware disciplines while analyzing, troubleshooting, and presenting results.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
  • Undergraduate applicants must have at least sophomore standing at the time of application.
  • Programming experience with Python, C/C++, or a similar language through coursework, research, projects, or work experience.
  • Ability to work for at least 12 weeks from late May or early June through August.

Nice to have

  • Experience or interest in autonomy, robotics, active safety, computer vision, machine learning, or perception.
  • ROS2, Linux-based robotics, embedded software, microcontrollers, MATLAB/Simulink, or CAN vehicle networks.
  • Vehicle powertrain, braking, steering, control systems, sensor integration, or simulation experience.
  • Hands-on experimentation with real systems and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
