TL;DR
Estimating & Planning Engineer I (Telecommunications): Producing Class 5 and Class 4 estimates, engineering analyses, budgets, and schedules for technology and network initiatives with an accent on telecommunications planning, mathematical modeling, and cross-functional solution design. Focus on developing business cases, validating capital and operating expenses, analyzing capacity and engineering risks, and supporting lifecycle planning for communications systems.

Location: Anchorage, Alaska, United States; remote eligible. Some travel to indoor and outdoor sites is required, including work in noise, inclement weather, cramped quarters, and at heights.

Salary: $69,305–$115,047 per year

What you will do

  • Research technology and business roadmaps and produce Class 5 and Class 4 estimates, engineering analyses, budgets, and schedules.
  • Participate in Intake, Conceive, and Validate stage gates to define project requirements, resources, costs, and delivery plans.
  • Support business cases, customer proposals, RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs across cloud, security, professional services, unified communications, and transport solutions.
  • Develop requirements for network capabilities, including system design, standards compliance, availability targets, performance metrics, operational support, and staff training.
  • Document capital and operating expense plans, capacity usage, traffic plans, engineering risks, and lifecycle schedules.
  • Coordinate with engineering, lifecycle, and delivery functions while supporting senior staff under close supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, or a related field.
  • At least one year of relevant experience in data science, project management, budgets and schedules, facilities, radio frequency, switching, packet, telecommunications, engineer-in-training work, or a related area.
  • Basic engineering calculations, design, implementation, applied statistics, mathematics, and computer-based mathematical modeling skills.
  • Understanding of communications systems, professional written and verbal communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, satisfactory driving record, and completion of a Defensive Driving course.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts, occasional additional hours, weekends or holidays, respond to emergencies, and comply with remote work policies.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Telecommunications experience or relevant industry certifications, including Certified Cost Technician or Certified Estimating Professional.
