AS400 Developer (IBM i)

hirify.global is staffing a long-term contract engagement supporting the Oklahoma Insurance Department's IBM i environment through the Office of Management and Enterprise Services.

What you will do

• Maintain, modify, optimize, and troubleshoot legacy applications written in RPG, RPGLE, and Control Language.
• Investigate operational bugs, batch anomalies, and user-reported system issues while adapting application logic to regulatory and business-process changes.
• Coordinate with hosting, storage, and backup providers on maintenance, OS patching, backup windows, disaster recovery testing, and restoration verification.
• Manage IBM i application security, user profiles, object-level authority, audit logs, job queues, subsystems, and application schedulers.
• Query and tune DB2 for i databases, optimize SQL queries and indexes, and support FTP/SFTP integrations with partner systems.
• Document legacy system flows, database schemas, and dependencies to support data extraction, archiving, and migration to cloud systems.

Requirements

• At least five years of hands-on AS400, IBM i, or iSeries application development and support experience.
• Exceptional proficiency in RPG IV, ILE RPG, RPGLE, Control Language, and SQL on DB2 for i.
• Experience working in a hosted or managed AS400 environment and coordinating with external infrastructure providers.
• Experience with IBM i work management, subsystem coordination, application security, and user profile administration.
• Strong background in automated FTP and SFTP file transfers.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

• Experience supporting legacy-to-cloud migrations or data-warehouse extractions.
• Familiarity with Rational Developer for i.
• Experience in public-sector environments or insurance regulatory systems.
