Data Engineer

Location: Buffalo, New York, United States of America; four days onsite at the Seneca One Buffalo location and one day working from home each week

Salary: $80,900–$134,800 annual USD

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines, ETL processes, integrations, and reporting solutions.
• Integrate internal and external data sources through APIs, databases, file-based exchanges, and enterprise platforms.
• Build and improve data models, transformation processes, data quality controls, and operational monitoring.
• Support dashboards, analytics products, and reporting solutions using enterprise visualization tools.
• Troubleshoot data issues, pipeline failures, and performance bottlenecks with senior engineers and technical teams.
• Work with business partners, vendors, technology management, and support teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.

Requirements

• At least five years of combined higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management, or architecture.
• Experience with Python, SQL, Java, or similar programming technologies.
• Experience querying and analyzing data with relational databases.
• Understanding of ETL processes, data transformation techniques, and data quality practices.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively while following data governance, coding, risk, and regulatory standards.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• At least five years of professional experience in technical engineering, data management, system design, or complex application development.
• Experience with APIs, file-based integrations, enterprise data sources, and reporting tools such as Power BI.
• Exposure to cloud platforms, containers, DevOps, Git, or workflow automation tools.
