Lead Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; at least 3 days per week in the office. Travel required 5–10% of the time.

Salary: $192,300–$307,600 USD per year, with potential bonus and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Provide hands-on technical leadership across teams building hirify.global’s payment processing platform.
• Design secure, reliable, and scalable capabilities for transaction workflows, lifecycle visibility, reporting, reconciliation, and business-critical processing.
• Lead architecture and implementation for event correlation, transaction matching, settlement state management, retries, dead-letter queues, replay, idempotency, and high-throughput data movement.
• Drive architecture reviews, code reviews, proof-of-concepts, performance analysis, debugging, production readiness, and operational troubleshooting.
• Partner with product, architecture, security, privacy, risk, operations, data, and integration teams to deliver compliant and resilient systems.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leads while applying AI/ML, automation, and intelligent engineering practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience with an advanced degree or PhD.
• 15 years of progressive technical leadership experience and demonstrated platform-wide impact.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, payment processing, high availability, scalability, resiliency, security, and operational excellence.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, containerized deployments, Kafka, event streaming, batch processing, SFTP, data platforms, CI/CD, observability, and test automation.
• Experience with modern frontend architecture using React or Angular, TypeScript or JavaScript, reusable component libraries, accessibility, data visualization, and secure API integration.
• Knowledge of reconciliation, clearing and settlement, PCI-DSS, SOX, financial services compliance, audit readiness, and operational controls.

Nice to have

• Recognized expertise demonstrated through publications, speaking engagements, patents, standards contributions, or equivalent industry impact.
• Experience implementing or governing AI/ML, Generative AI, or intelligent systems at production scale.
• Experience leading platforms serving billions of transactions or very high-volume operational workloads.
