Software Controls Engineer - Power Electronics (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Milford, Michigan; onsite attendance required at least three times per week. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and maintain embedded C/C++ software for automotive power-electronics and energy-transfer applications.
• Design controls for AC/DC charging, DC/DC conversion, voltage and current regulation, power flow, state machines, diagnostics, protection, and fault handling.
• Translate system and controls requirements into software architecture, implementation, interfaces, and traceable verification activities.
• Collaborate with software, systems, controls, hardware, calibration, validation, and supplier teams to integrate solutions and resolve technical issues.
• Perform unit, integration, HIL, system, and vehicle-level testing; investigate failures and drive root-cause resolution.
• Support automated build, test, CI/CD, code reviews, design reviews, and charging features including bidirectional energy transfer.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, controls engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in automotive embedded software, power-electronics controls software, or a closely related field.
• Hands-on production software development experience in C or C++.
• Knowledge of real-time embedded design, software interfaces, state machines, diagnostics, hardware/software integration, debugging, and testing.
• Ability to translate requirements into software design, implementation, and verification activities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional engineering teams with strong communication and analytical skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with onboard chargers, OBCM systems, AC/DC or DC/DC converters, power-factor correction, and voltage/current control.
• Experience with EV charging, EVSE interfaces, V2X, V2G, or DIN/ISO, CCS, NACS, and CHAdeMO protocols.
• Knowledge of CAN, LIN, Ethernet, ARXML, UDS, Git, Jira, CANoe/CANalyzer, DNG, or DOORS.
• Experience with MBSE, automated testing, HIL, SIL, CoSim, bench, dyno, or vehicle-level validation.
• Knowledge of functional safety, cybersecurity, ASPICE, MISRA, BDD, TDD, or DevOps practices.
