Location: Houston, United States. The role is primarily office-based, with inside or outside work depending on the task, and may require evenings and weekends during critical project milestones.

What you will do

  • Develop, iterate, and mature Portable Life Support System hardware for the Axiom Extravehicular Activity spacesuit.
  • Own product delivery from concept and design through fabrication, assembly, delivery, on-orbit demonstration, and on-orbit services.
  • Create and review CAD models, engineering schematics, drawings, analyses, assessments, and procedures.
  • Validate designs through analysis and testing, building development articles when needed.
  • Define spacesuit standards, engineering practices, and product lifecycle processes across the supply chain and final integration.
  • Lead design and production reviews while communicating project status, risks, and progress to suppliers, customers, stakeholders, and leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in life support engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of space environments, including grounding and bonding, thermal conditions, vacuum, and regolith.
  • Hands-on experience building, testing, or assembling hardware, with familiarity with flight hardware development and certification.
  • Experience designing complex systems that balance mass, cost, and capability, and implementing engineering standards and processes.
  • Must complete a U.S. government background investigation and provide proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of NASA or commercial space program standards.
  • Experience delivering outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving environments under tight deadlines.
