Senior Principal Architect, CTO Office (AI)

Location: London, England, United Kingdom; virtual/hybrid working is location dependent. Some international travel is required.

What you will do

• Own architecture and end-to-end delivery for the CTO Office's highest-priority technical projects.
• Write and review production code daily across unfamiliar codebases, technology stacks, and business domains.
• Design, ship, and operate agentic and LLM-based systems with retrieval at scale, evaluations, guardrails, security, identity, monitoring, and auditability.
• Build data foundations, enterprise integrations, APIs, streaming and event-driven systems, and cloud platforms where required.
• Hire, coach, and establish the technical standards for a small team of applied AI engineers.
• Brief executives and senior customer stakeholders on technical outcomes and commercial implications.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software development experience, including architecture ownership for enterprise-scale production systems.
• Current hands-on experience with production agentic systems, RAG and Graph RAG, MCP, agent runtimes, and multiple model providers.
• Expert-level Python and TypeScript skills, with the ability to contribute to C#/.NET and Java enterprise codebases.
• Experience with LLM evaluation strategies, production hardening, observability, security, identity, governance, and enterprise-scale operations.
• Production experience with Kubernetes, containerisation, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and at least one hyperscaler; Azure is preferred.
• Experience hiring engineers, raising technical standards, communicating at executive level, and delivering 0-to-1 capabilities under time pressure.

Nice to have

• Experience in industrial, asset-intensive, ERP, EAM, FSM, or other enterprise software domains.
• Working knowledge of the EU AI Act and NIST AI RMF.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric/OneLake, Databricks, REST, OData, GraphQL, webhooks, vector search, knowledge graphs, or Text-to-SQL.
