Senior Applied AI Engineer

Location: Sydney, Australia; hybrid work with an average of 2 days per week from the local hirify.global office

What you will do

• Design, implement, and evaluate agentic AI capabilities and stateful, multi-turn systems using frameworks such as LangGraph.
• Build data pipelines and integrations that create coherent context from surveys, goals, performance reviews, feedback, and one-to-one notes.
• Develop persistent memory, context graphs, custom ontologies, relational memory, procedural memory, and user preferences.
• Build and evaluate RAG systems, hybrid search, graph-based agent frameworks, and production-grade multi-agent architectures.
• Own prompt engineering, evaluation at scale, observability, feedback loops, guardrails, safety, and continuous system improvement.
• Translate customer needs into technical designs and partner with product, design, and people science teams to ship scalable features.

Requirements

• Commercial experience taking ML or AI systems into production.
• Hands-on experience with knowledge graphs and graph databases such as Neo4j or Neptune.
• Experience with production LLM evaluation, LLM-as-judge, evaluation datasets, human-in-the-loop labelling, tracing, observability, and monitoring tools such as Langfuse or LangSmith.
• Experience designing and scaling multi-agent systems, including orchestration, prompt and context engineering, RAG, memory, and agent architectures.
• Full-stack software development experience, ideally with Python, React, and PGVector, plus strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience designing secure, robust data pipelines and integrating data across systems.

Nice to have

• Startup or founding-team experience and comfort with ambiguity and rapid iteration.
• Master’s or PhD in machine learning, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Experience taking recent AI techniques from research papers into production, including GraphRAG or knowledge graph implementations.
• Background in people analytics, HR technology, behavioural science, open source, or public technical writing.
