Product Line Application Engineer – Custom Test Systems (Power Electronics)

What you will do

• Own the technical application strategy for bidirectional regenerative DC sources and loads used in battery, e-mobility, energy storage, and data center testing.
• Translate customer use cases into system concepts covering power and voltage envelopes, dynamics, paralleling, master-slave configurations, energy recuperation, grid impact, and power quality.
• Lead customer-specific technical solutions, from requirements and architecture through documentation, handover, service support, and lifecycle improvements.
• Design and operate demonstrations, application notes, automation examples, webinars, and technical training for customers, sales teams, field application engineers, and channel partners.
• Specify and lead the build-up of a high-power applications lab, including grid infrastructure, transformer capacity, protection, DC busbars, cabling, commissioning, acceptance, remote access, and safety compliance.
• Develop and support test automation and industrial-interface integrations using SCPI, Python, LabVIEW/TestStand, Ethernet, Modbus TCP, EtherCAT, PROFINET, and CAN/CAN FD.

Requirements

• Degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, mechatronics, or a comparable field.
• Several years of experience in applications engineering, test engineering, commissioning, or system integration, including hands-on work with high-power and high-voltage equipment.
• Strong understanding of converter topologies, regenerative and bidirectional operation, control loops, dynamic behavior, protection concepts, grid interaction, and power quality.
• Practical experience in at least one target area: battery testing, e-mobility, energy storage, or high-power DC distribution for data centers.
• Electrical-safety qualification such as Elektrofachkraft or equivalent, with willingness to assume responsible-person duties for the lab.
• Business-fluent German and English are required. Customer-facing communication and technical presentation skills are also required.
