Controls Engineer (AI)

Location: Must be based in or able to work from Austin, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, or Seattle (Hybrid)

Salary: $210,000 – $260,000

What you will do

• Own the control architecture for machines and test rigs, including compressors, motor drives, and expansion turbines.
• Write safety interlocks and fault handling logic for complex fluid systems.
• Deliver capacity control through motor and turbine speed management.
• Validate control systems using hardware-in-the-loop testing before deployment.
• Integrate control systems with site BMS and wider plant infrastructure.

Requirements

• Experience writing control logic for rotating machinery with hands-on commissioning experience.
• Proven ability to design safety-critical interlocks and justify them from first principles.
• Experience running hardware-in-the-loop testing to catch issues before commissioning.
• Ability to tune loops on live machinery and troubleshoot model-plant discrepancies.
• Experience handing off control systems with comprehensive documentation.

Nice to have

• Background in propulsion or vehicle test controls.
• Experience with variable-speed drives and high-speed motor control.
• Knowledge of refrigeration and chiller control systems.
• Familiarity with industrial platforms like Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or CODESYS.
• Proficiency in model-based development tools like Simulink, dSPACE, or NI VeriStand.
