SIEM Application Engineer (Cyber Security)

Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom; hybrid work with 3 days per week in the BT Birmingham office

What you will do

• Configure Elasticsearch pipelines to ingest and enrich security data from multiple sources, primarily Kafka.
• Design, implement, and maintain strategic network SIEM solutions with security analysts and architects.
• Optimize SIEM rules, alerts, and dashboards for threat detection.
• Write efficient Elasticsearch queries and monitor SIEM infrastructure performance.
• Contribute to security engineering projects, transitions, and transformations.
• Collaborate with security operations and incident response systems while tracking emerging threats and security practices.

Requirements

• Proven experience in software engineering roles.
• Experience with scripting, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Kafka, ArgoCD, GitLab pipelines, YAML, Helm, Ansible, or basic networking.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work from the Birmingham office three days per week.

Nice to have

• SIEM detection engineering experience.
• Experience onboarding and normalizing log sources.
• Linux, Windows, and network administration knowledge.
• Cloud services, OpenStack, Kubernetes, and DevOps experience.
